It takes 17 trees to make a tonne of cardboard boxes. Cardboard boxes are usually used once before being recycled or landfilled. This makes me cry with frustration- but i think the internet can help.

My campaign site, thecreativecrip.com (and my nom de plume) was borne of the frustration in trying to become self-employed having become disabled and exhausted my redundancy savings. The of aim this project has always been to chronicle my thoughts and experiences as an entrepreneur trying to successfully grow a business despite the limitations of physical, mental and invisible disabilities. I don’t want to carry on living my life as it is now – becoming disabled and needing benefits is not a lifestyle choice, especially given the not insignificant skills and experience I’ve gained from nearly 25 years working on Wall Street and in The City of London. The reality is proving to be quite different to the idea. I have spent the better part of two years floundering, barely keeping my head above water as I begged for help and fought to not be forced into the usual dead-end workfare schemes. I have received very little in the way of factual, practical help.

‘Sensible’ And The Benefits System Don’t Usually Go Hand-In-Hand. The resulting schemes of numerous Benefits Consultations and Reforms instigated by successive UK governments have created seemingly insurmountable problems in “making work pay”. This is as true for government employees tasked with administering Department of Work of Pensions initiatives as it is for members of the public who need help from the State.

Good literacy development from an early age is an important asset in every child’s life. Reading serves as the major foundational skill for all school-based learning – it is a multifaceted process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency, and motivation. Our idea is a collaborative venture created to provide a new perspective, build on knowledge and develop important life skills. “Learn & display literacy project” can materialise by uniting children, young people, parents, cultural leaders and museums in Tower Hamlets, London. Participants develop a cultural storybook outside of school in order to increase literacy rates, community engagement and parental involvement in children’s reading development.

A mobile application and online platform, ‘The Thing Tank’ will help young people not in employment, education or training to easily record, collate and present ‘things’ they’ve done to create a narrative of relevant experience. The process is supported by a youth worker (and in many cases by peers) and experiences will contribute to agreed challenges which can form part of an accredited youth qualification. All ‘things’ or experiences will also be automatically synced into an online multi-media CV template. ‘Things’ can be recorded in a variety of ways (by photo, video, text, audio) and can even submitted by others. Young people also gain important social media and multi-media skills while sharing and learning with their peer group. This will all result in increased employability and chances of access to further education.

We propose a social search platform for internships, which helps finding paid and valuable learning opportunities easily. It is social, because interns can make pay-level and quality of learning experiences transparent by adding such information to the platform.

An idea I've been toying with to set up a new breed of library to complement a reduced building-based resource. Note: this is entirely in my personal capacity, and not representative of the council!!!
