Can Hailo model make Taxicard service better for ppl with mobility difficulties?
"Taxicard is a scheme that provides subsidised transport for people who have serious mobility difficulty in using public transport. Taxicard holders make journeys in licensed London taxis and the subsidy applies directly to each trip"
This is a much needed service for people with mobility difficulties including disabled and older people, to help make transport more accessible and give people independence to get out and about.
Sadly the service can be extremely rigid and frustrating to use, putting people off of depending on it for journeys when time of arrival is important such as hospital appointments, cinema screenings etc, or using it at all. The user experience can be stressful due to expectations being poorly managed.
Having used Hailo to easily book taxis that turn up in a short amount of time (although unsubsidised), I wish we could find a way of making the Taxicard service more like this.
