How can we build connections between employment and social housing?
Incomes are restrained and employment opportunities limited, housing is allocated based on housing need with some local authorities recently introducing criteria about being in employment before qualifying for social housing. Getting a job when you are street homeless is difficult, qualifying for social housing currently means you have dependents or are vulnerable - is this a realistic solution? Is there a better way of encouraging people into work and having social housing as a reward rather than only being for those who work at one end or those struggling to cope at the other. Can we match housing and employment in a different way?
Not sure how it works - but there are lists of jobs vacant and lists of houses vacant.
Creates a step towards linking Housing and Employment making the offer of housing something to aspire to rather than putting up a barrier. Many housing providers already deliver support into employment which could be linked in.
