Is the data we need for new and useful mobile apps currently available, or do we need to lobby the appropriate organisations to make this data available?
This is a fairly broad category, and much discussed, particularly in the public sector as Governments make more of their data available to citizens.
In the UK, the transparency agenda has stimulated much debate about expenditure in local central government, and release of transport data is providing development opportunities for new mobile apps that give up to date information about train and bus schedules. But what other applications could improve the lives of ordinary citizens, or make us better informed about the decisions we make, e.g. about where we live, the schools we send our children to, the local services we use? Is the data we need currently available, or do we need to lobby the appropriate organisations to make this data available?
Let's consolidate ideas and interests in this area, and provide relevant links to organisations that are pushing the boundaries for greater transparency in public and private sectors.
